I believe in campaigning for office on the issues, but I also believe it’s important for voters to know who they’re voting for. Today’s voters are looking for candidates with substance.
My name is Bob Bowen, and I’m running for reelection to the Plumsted Township Committee. First elected to the township committee in 2019, this is my third year on the committee. In January 2022, I was selected by my colleagues to serve as mayor. Prior to my election, I was on the Plumsted Township Land Use Board from 2015 to 2019.
I grew up in the Philadelphia area and am a graduate of Drexel University’s LeBow College of Business. I retired from a 30+ year business career in 2016. The largest portion of my career was focused on non-profit management. I have a depth of experience in project management, budget planning, vendor coordination, and interacting with people… all of which will continue to be put to use if I’m reelected.
I’ve been married to my wife, Kristen, for 27 years. She’s my best friend, my better half, and my softer side. She’s smart, funny, and has a special gift for making everyone who enters our home feel welcome. Following a successful career in communications, Kristen founded hearts+homes Ministries, Inc., a non-profit that "furnishes fresh starts" for families emerging from crises.
Kristen and I both believe in volunteering. We feel it’s important to use our gifts and talents to serve others. We’re actively involved in our community and our church.
As a person, I’m passionate about making things better. I listen more than I speak, but I’m not shy about voicing my opinions. I’m an independent thinker who doesn’t follow the crowd, and I’m a creative problem-solver who isn’t afraid to take an unconventional approach. I give thoughtful consideration to people’s concerns and make every attempt to build people up through my words and actions. Those who know me say I have a reputation for being fair, honest, and measured, particularly when I consider issues that impact others.
Kristen and I moved to New Egypt in 2004. At a young age I remember my dad explaining the right to vote and the importance of exercising that right. I’d enter the voting booth with him and watch with interest as he made his choices. When I turned 18, he and I went to the polls together, and I cast my own vote for the first time. I’ve carefully selected the candidate I’ve believed to be the best for the position. I'm a lifelong Republican, and it's a privilege to run with the Ocean County Republican Organization.
I hope this helps you catch a glimpse of who I am as a person. I’d welcome your questions. Thank you for considering me when you vote in this Primary Election.
A small town like ours offers easy access to candidates, and I’d welcome the opportunity to meet you in person. Contact me, and we’ll make plans to get together.
